Tips For Picking a Laser Technician for a Male Brazlian

Thinking of getting laser treatment on the male pubic region? With the number of clinics now advertising that offer male brazilians it would appear that the procedure is getting more and more common. Although I don’t have any concrete evidence of this, I can say that in September I joined the ranks of men who have decided to permanently remove their pubic hair via laser hair removal.

The purpose of this post is not to explain the results of the treatment, this is coming in a subsequent post, but rather to explain what I did prior to the treatment to get comfortable with the laser clinic as well as the laser technician. Considering I was about to get partially naked in front of a complete stranger and have them yield a laser that would be touching my testicles, shaft and anus this was not a decision that I was planning to simply run into.

Here are my words of advice for any male (or female) that is looking at getting laser hair removal in their private area done.

#1 – Ask a lot of questions

Some of the questions that I asked my technician:
– What date did you first do a male brazilian?
– How many brazilian’s have you done?
– Can you explain exactly what will happen during the procedure and what you require of me? (This is an important question as some clinics will say you do nothing, then will shift stuff around, and others will say they won’t touch your private area but instead will ask you to participate by moving your junk back and forth)
– Have you had any clients that were not happy with your work?
– How long will it take?
– What % of your clients have started with a brazlian and then moved to other body parts or started with other body parts and moved to brazilian?
– How do you communicate during the procedure?
– Have you burnt any clients?

The purpose of asking a lot of questions is to build rapport. The way a person answers the above questions will show genuine knowledge. If a person is irritated by your questions or wants you to make a decision in a hurry, run away, they clearly don’t care about making you feel at ease. What I was really looking for was to ensure that the person had experience, the rest was building rapport.

#2 – Build Rapport

Starting with the questions you want to make sure you are comfortable with the person doing the procedure. The key comfort level is to make sure that you have good communication to and from the technician to ensure the procedure goes smoothly. Considering how intimate this procedure this (and by intimate I don’t mean anything that would reasonable a turn – just that you are naked with your junk exposed in front of another person) you may also want to have a technician with whom you can have a conversation about general subject matter while the procedure is being performed.

In my case, I like a talkative laser tech. Somebody who can talk intelligently on a variety of subjects. Granted this is a personal preference but I could not spend 20-30 minutes with a tech who was completely silent.

#3 – Get Over the Embarrassment

When you actually go in for the procedure the technician will tell you to remove everything from waist down. In my case I was also doing armpits at the same time, so basically besides socks, I was completely naked on the table. Perhaps for some freakish men this is considered a turn-on, but truthfully, it is a little embarrassing laying on a table naked waiting for a laser tech to come in.

To point #2 of building rapport, the tech came in and immediately put me at ease by jumping into conversation (can’t actually remember what the conversation was) while she setup the machine and gave me the glasses. This immediately put me at ease and brought my tension level down. First she did the armpits and then when she was about to start the brazilian portion she took some time to explain again what was going to happen and when she was going to need me to move stuff around. Probably the most embarrassing part was lifting your legs up to your stomach and spreading slightly while she did the anus area.

When the procedure was done, she left and I got dressed. As I was dressing I was thinking to myself, I am about to go out to the counter and pay the bill to a women who has intimately seen all my nether regions. Going back to the importance of rapport when I got out of the room to pay, she was completely professional, asked how everything was, cracked a good joke and gave me the bill. When I was paying we set-up the second appointment.

As mentioned, I will put up another post on the results (so far after two sessions, I am impressed) but I wanted to share my experience in selecting a technician and the first procedure. Before selecting a clinic I interviewed 4 clinics and 4 technicians who offer the service and I think my list of questions and the initial rapport has paid off in finding a technician who is professional, knowledgeable and makes me comfortable. By the way, the clinic that was selected is called the Hair Free Laser Institute in Calgary.

I hope that you find the information in this post useful.

Lots of Laser Hair Removal Deals This Long Weekend

It is another one of those weekends for the daily deal companies who are offering a host of laser hair removal options for Canadians. For consistent readers of our blog you already know that we do a lot of digging into prices of laser hair removal. It appears this service is gaining in popularity as more and more people look to remove their body hair, so we want to make sure that people are as educated on the pricing of the service. That said, price is only one consideration. You want to make sure the technician is qualified and the business is reputable. For those, we do not cover, so use this blog as a proxy of what you can expect but always do your own research prior to making any commitment to proceed with laser hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal of the Underarm

For all the deals below, we will look at the price per underarm session. We find this to be the most component spot listed in the deal sites as well as the price that is most commonly listed on companies websites.

Calgary

Site: LivingSocial
Business: Reveal Rejuvenation Inc.
Deal: Four Laser Hair-Removal Sessions for $99. That works out to $25 per session.

This site does not list their regular prices, so it is pretty easy for them to inflate the price on this deal to make it sound more attractive. However, at $25 per underarm session, we would deem this a good deal.

Site: TeamBuy
Business: Chehra Wellness Spa
Deal: $275 for 1 Year of Unlimited Laser Hair Removal from Chehra Wellness Spa ($3000 Value)

This site does not list their regular prices. This particular deal is limited to a very small number of body parts, Underarm, bikini, side burns, upper lip, men’s neck and back of men’s neck. If you are a man, this might actually be a good deal, however, if you are a women likely their are only 3 areas that are valid, underarm, bikini and upper lip. If we look specifically at underarm laser hair removal and consider that most deals, including ones we reviewed previously at back in October on Groupon deals, we actually don’t believe this to be a good deal. Typically you will need 6 to 8 sessions to remove the hair in your armpits, so at 6 sessions, this would end up costing you $45.83 per session and at 8 sessions this would cost you $34.37 per session. So unless you have need for the other areas, be cautious of this deal. We would not deem this one to be a good deal.

Site: DealTicker
Business: Rootz Laser
Deal: $39 for 3 Laser Hair Removal Treatments of Your Choice in the Specified Areas (Basic Bikini, Underarms, Upper Lip, Chin, Cheeks, Side Burns, Uni Brow, Breasts, Sternum, Back of Neck, Front of Neck, Hands, Feet, Naval Strip, and Toes)

Specific to the deal, this is a good deal. At $13 per underarm session, this is one of the best we have seen. Definitely worth checking out. Also, for men looking to get their groin area done, this business also provides this service. According to their site the groin area is $290 per session for men and a full brazilian bikini for women is $200. For men, how does this compare, check out our original post Getting a Male Brazilian via Laser Hair Removal in Calgary with Prices, but at $290 this is competitive.

Durham Region

Site: WagJag
Business: Body Bliss Beautique (Whitby)
Deal: $99 for 6 Laser Hair Removal Sessions

$16.50 per underarm session is always a good deal.

Site: WagJag
Business: Smooth Hair Removal & Skin Therapy (Uxbridge)
Deal: $115 for 4 Laser Hair Removal Sessions for the Underarms

$28.75 per underarm session is a little high for these types of deals. This could be dependent on the market, we can’t imagine in Uxbridge, there are lots of options for laser hair removal.

Edmonton

Site: Dealicious
Business: Skin Deep Laser The Holistic Medi-Spa
Deal: $49 For 2 Laser Hair Removal

At $24.50 per deal, in Edmonton, we don’t consider this to be a great deal. It is okay, but not steller. This site lists their regular price list, check it out. In the past we have done a full analysis on full legs in Edmonton via laser hair removal and comparing their regular price of $600 and up for women, they are on the high-side of prices in Edmonton. NOTE: according to their site they also prefer laser hair removal on men’s genitals.

Site: Dealfind
Business: Transformations Body Management Clinic
Deal: $89 for 6 Laser Hair Removal Sessions on Your Choice of Bikini Line, Underarms, Stomach Line, Forehead, Cheeks, Upper Lip, Chin, Sideburns, Hands, Feet or Ears

At $14.83 per underarm session this is a good deal. NOTE: this site does not list its regular prices

Halifax

Site: WagJag
Business: Aurora Aesthetics
Deal: $89 for 5 Laser Hair Removal Treatments

At $17.80 per underarm session, this is a good deal. NOTE: they have their full price list on their site and offer male brazilians and female brazilians. They charge the same for men and women at $199 per session or package of 5 for $796. This is pretty good. We did a complete Canadian analysis of Female Brazilian laser hair removal prices across Canada’s largest cities, Aurora Aesthetics benchmarks extremely well.

Saskatoon

Site: Groupon
Business: Acadia Cosmetic & Laser Centre
Deal: $149 for Six Laser Hair-Removal Sessions for Small Areas or Three Sessions for Large Areas

At $49.66 per underarm session this is a bad deal when compared to other across the country. This deal actually places underarms as a large area and their regular price is $180. This deal would make sense if you are planning to do your legs, from the fine print appears you can use for lower legs which they claim is $525 per session regular price. Be careful with this deal.

Ottawa

Site: LivingSocial
Business: Canadian Laser Clinic
Deal: $99 for 3 Three Laser Hair-Removal Treatments

At $33 per underarm session, this is not a good deal.

Toronto

Site: DealFind
Business: Paramedical Skin Health
Deal: $79 for 6 Laser Hair Removal Sessions on Your Choice of Bikini Line, Underarms, Stomach Line, Upper Lip, Eyebrows, Chin, Cheeks, Forehead, Hands, Feet, Jaw Line, Ears, Nose or Sideburns

At $13 per underarm session this is a good deal. They have a link to their price list in PDF format, however, at the time of this blog post we could not download to compare to regular price. The deal price, however, is good.

Site: Groupon
Business: California Laser Med Spa
Deal: $89 for Three Laser Hair-Removal Treatments

At $29 per session this deal is average. Not spectacular but also not the worst. On their site, they don’t list their regular prices, but what they list as regular price on their Groupon deal page, $750 for 3-sessions is on the high-side. In our opinion we don’t consider this to be a good deal.

Site: WagJag
Business: Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery Clinic
Deal: $89 for 3 Underarm Laser Hair Removal Sessions

At $29.67 per underarm session this deal is not the best. Note: this site does not post its regular prices

Vancouver

Site: TeamBuy
Business: Heavenly Soul Spa
Deal: $99 for 6 Laser Hair Removal Treatments

At $16.50 per session, this is a good deal. They do offer a price list, however they don’t stipulate whether the services are for men as well as women. $150 for female brazilian via laser is reasonable.

Site: WagJag
Business: Metropolis Laser Centre
Deal: $99 for 3 Underarm Laser Hair Removal

At $33 per session, this is not a good deal.

Update on Getting a Male Brazilian in Calgary, #yyc

Back in January we did a post on getting a male Brazilian done in Calgary, Alberta. We recently received a comment on that post from Annette Burwash, the owner of The Gateway Spa for Men who informed us of 10-years experience on this subject, so we decided to check out the site.

In keeping to our mission of providing as much information as possible, they do a great job of outlining the cost of their laser hair removal + waxing services for me. Here is what we discovered.

They call it “below the belt” which we assume is the bikini region. The cost per session is $399 according to their site. From the post back in January, this seems to be on the higher side, however, as we always point out, you should do your research by calling all companies to ensure they offer exactly the service you want. Price alone on a website should not be the only determinant.

So if you are a male living in Calgary and planning to get rid of your pubic hair, check out the site above and make sure you read our first post, Getting a Male Brazilian via Laser Hair Removal in Calgary with Prices – where we feature 7 more companies in Calgary who provide this service.

Electrolysis Prices Across Canada

Continuing our series of looking at prices across Canada for hair removal (we recently did a full body laser hair removal cost analysis, male Brazilian laser prices in Vancouver, laser hair removal prices in Edmonton, waxing comparison prices in Canada’s largest cities, and male Brazilian laser removal in Calgary) we felt like we were neglecting the only permanent form of hair removal which is Electrolysis (here is the link to Electrology on Wikipedia that explains the process in detail). So we decided to look around the Internet to see what the average cost for 1-hour of Electrolysis is across the country. This is only a sample and we are only listing sites that display their pricing.

On thing of note, none of the contributors to this blog have every done Electrolysis, therefore, if you have done Electrolysis in the past we would love to hear your experience, how many treatments, where you got it done and the cost of your treatments.

Here are our findings.

We found 17 clinics in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal that listed their prices. The average price for 1-hour of electrolysis across these 17 clinics is $61.43 with Calgary coming it at the highest average ($71) and Winnipeg coming it at the lowest average price ($56.67). Note: Calgary is skewed higher because we had a sample size of 3 clinics and 1 clinic has a really high price (if we remove this clinic, Calgary is actually the lowest average at $56.50).
